Kampala, (UG): The Police in Kampala North Metropolitan are holding two male adults over acts of promoting homosexuality in the country after they were red-handedly caught engaging in unnatural sexual practices last Friday in Kampala.
The homosexual incident in which the 23-year-olds were filmed happened on Friday, October 20, at a hair salon in Kisingiri Cell-Namirembe, Bakuli Parish in Rubaga Division, Kampala.
The development was confirmed by Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga while addressing journalists at a weekly security briefing on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Naguru Police Headquarters.
According to Mr Enanga, it is alleged that “on October 20, at around 3 pm, a student from one of the schools decided to take shelter from the heavy rainfall on the veranda of the salon. It was at this point that the student heard funny screaming sounds inside the salon.”
The student then picked up his phone and recorded the two suspects in the acts of sodomy and alerted security guards at Total [fuel station] Mengo who called the police at Bakuli to arrest the two suspects.
“You are very much aware that the offenses against the natural order like sodomy and others are punishable crimes in the country, so these two are being taken for practising unnatural offence,” Mr Enanga said, adding that the two are still in police custody pending processing of charges of practising unnatural offences.
The Police Spokesperson therefore urged the public to always report to the police any suspicious behaviours related to homosexuality and lesbianism in their communities so that perpetrators of the unnatural practices are brought to book and apprehended.
The recently enacted Anti-Homosexuality Act states that acts of aggravated homosexuality attract punishments, which may also include the death penalty depending on the circumstances under which the crime is committed.
Since its passing in May 2023, police have heightened efforts to apprehend suspects on allegations of engaging in unnatural practices or homosexual acts.
As of today, October 24, this publication understands that at least 12 suspects have so far been arrested and arraigned before court between the months of June and October 2023 on charges of engaging in or promoting homosexual behaviours.
