City Oilers showcased entertaining talent when they crushed KIU Titans in the first two games of the Uganda Basketball League playoffs final but KIU Titans responded with a stunning victory over the City Oilers, winning 70-68 in game three.
The Oilers initially dominated with a 10-point lead, seemingly on their way to a 3-0 series lead for a ninth consecutive league title, until the Titans displayed resilience.
City Oilers cruised past KIU Titans following an 83-76 victory in game four on Friday at Lugogo Arena.
The Oilers lead the series 3-2 after the KIU Titans secured a hard-fought 65-62 victory over the City Oilers, shifting the National Basketball League finals to 3-2 on Sunday, October 25, 2023.
With a pivotal game looming on October 25, 2023, the Titans are on the verge of championship glory, requiring just two more wins against the resilient City Oilers.
Despite Sunday’s triumph, the Titans faced an unwavering Oilers team, setting the stage for a decisive game six against all odds.
The Oilers, geared up for an awards ceremony, were met with fierce opposition as the Titans refused to concede, silencing celebratory fans.
Forward Edgar Munaba emphasized the Titans’ relentless spirit, stating, “We’re down by one, not out, and we’ll fight till game seven.” Munaba attributed their Sunday victory to an incredible defensive effort.
Point guard Joel Lukoji Banza stole the spotlight with a stellar performance, notching 16 points and nine rebounds, earning him the role of the evening’s poster boy.
