Coach Ayiekoh names Crested Cranes travelling squad for Cameroon return leg

The interim head coach of Uganda’s Women’s football team, the Crested Cranes, Charles Ayiekoh has named a 20-woman squad travelling to Cameroon ahead of the return leg with the hosts in the qualifiers of the 2024 Olympics Football tournament.

Ayiekoh flew out on Saturday morning with a team of three goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and seven forwards aboard the Ethiopian Airways.

The Crested Cranes go into the return leg scheduled for Tuesday next week with a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Catherine Nagadya and Fazila Ikwaput who scored for Uganda on Thursday at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru during the first leg bout.

The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Cameroon will face either Nigeria or Ethiopia in the next qualification phase of the 2024 Paris Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

Below is the Crested Cranes’ travelling squad

Goalkeepers: Daisy Nakaziro, Vanessa Edith Karungi, Gloria Namakula
Defenders: Asia Nakibuuka, Sumaya Komuntale, Shadia Nankya, Desire Katisi Natooro, Bridget Nabisaalu
Midfielders: Joan Nabirye, Phiona Nabbumba, Zaitun Namaganda, Shamirah Nalugya, Jackline Adong
Forwards: Fauzia Najjemba, Fazila Ikwaput, Catherine Nagadya, Joanitah Ainembabazi, Lillian Kasuubo, Elizabeth Nakigozi, Anita Namata

The travelling squad will have a stopover in Addis Ababa before connecting to Douala, Cameroon, where the return leg will be played.
