Bugema University 0:0 Uganda Martyrs University
Bugema University and Uganda Martyrs’ University Thursday settled for a goalless draw in a tightly contested fixture of the Pepsi University Football League. The game was marked by moments of intense action and near misses from both sides.
The first half saw Bugema University’s Aziz Opio making an early attempt with a deflected shot that narrowly missed the target.
As the game progressed, Bugema University took control of possession and launched several attacking moves, testing the defensive resilience of Uganda Martyrs.
In the 22nd minute, UMU’s Kayondo delivered a skilful free-kick towards the front post, but Bugema University’s goalkeeper, Kalungi, made a crucial punch to deny the opportunity.
There were claims of a foul by Emanyo during the same play, but the referee waved off the protests.
As the clock ticked on, Ssenyunja of Bugema University displayed excellent hustle, winning possession and releasing Opio for a shot that was ultimately blocked by Uganda Martyr’s goalkeeper.
The first half ended with Bugema and Uganda Martyrs deadlocked at 0-0, reflecting the tight battle on the field.
The second half saw Bugema continuing their attacking efforts, but they were met with a resilient Nkonzi defense that refused to yield.
Rain added an extra dimension to the game, blessing the pitch with a slick surface.
After the match, Bugema University’s Head Coach, Nyanzi Meddie expressed gratitude for securing a point at home and emphasized the importance of focusing on their upcoming match against Kabale University, which they view as a must-win fixture.
“ We thank the Almighty for giving us a point at home, our mind now is focused on the upcoming match against Kabale University which is a must-win fixture,” Nyanzi said.
With this draw, Uganda Martyrs’ University remains at the top of Group A with 11 points, while Bugema University sits closely behind with 10 points. Kabale University holds third place with 7 points, and the University of Kisubi trails with zero points.
Bugema faces Kabale University in their final group game, while Uganda Martyr’s University will host the University of Kisubi in Nkonzi.
The shared points keep the competition fierce as the Pepsi University Football League unfolds.
