Darius Mugoye: A man who dedicated his life and resources to Ugandan football

The Ugandan football community Tuesday morning woke up to grieving news following the untimely demise of FUFA second Vice President, Mugoye Darius.

Mugoye, 42, passed away on Tuesday, November 07, at Mengo Hospital in Lubaga division where he had been hospitalized for an illness for less than two weeks.

At the time of his passing, Darius Mugoye was serving as the second vice president of FUFA under President Moses Magogo since 2013. The first vice president to Magogo is Justus Mugisha.

Mugoye, Mugisha and Magogo, who together formed a triple M during when Mugoye was still alive were re-elected to their positions by FUFA delegates earlier this year.

Darius Mugoye was born in 1981, in Rubanga, Sheema District.

He owned St. Mary’s New Hope FC which competes in the Kampala Regional League, a team that is affiliated to St. Mary’s SS in Nabweru which he also owned.

He also served as the Treasurer of Kawempe District Football Association between 2008-2012.

He also served as secretary Zone 9 (now Kampala Region FA) in 2012 until his appointment as the FUFA Executive in 2013.

Mugoye was a delegate in the 2013 FUFA Assembly representing Kampala Region FA, where he was voted FUFA 2nd Vice President and Secretary FUFA Licensing Board 2013.

Between 2013-2017, Mugoye was Chairman of FUFA Competitions Committee.

He also served as the Chairperson of the FUFA Women Adhoc Football committee for all women’s football competitions in 2015 which oversaw the start of the FUFA Women Elite League (now FUFA Women Super League).

He was voted to represent Kampala Region League clubs in the FUFA Assembly since 2017.

He was chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2019 CECAFA U20 Championship held in Gulu and at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

In 2017, Mugoye served as the Vice Chairman of the FUFA Adhoc Committee that was assigned to bring back football glory days in Northern Uganda.

Has been Chairman of the FUFA SACCO since its inception in 2021.

Was head of the FUFA Finance function-appointed during the restructuring of Internal operations of FUFA Executive by FUFA President in 2022.

In 2022, he was appointed by FUFA President as Head of the FUFA Stakeholders, Strategic Relations and Innovations Committee 2022 during the restructuring of the Internal operations of FUFA Executive.

In 2023, Member of the FUFA working committee for the East Africa Pamoja AFCON 2027 winning bid.

He has been a Member of the Board of Directors at FUFA Media Services Limited.

Mugoye has also been a Member Director of Directors FUFA Sportswear Limited.

He has also been serving as a Member Director of Directors of the FUFA Hospitality and Travel Agency Limited.

The untimely passing of Mr. Darius Mugoye marks a significant loss for the FUFA community and beyond.

His commitment and passion for the development of football in Uganda will be remembered and cherished.

According to the burial programme released by FUFA, Mugoye will be laid to rest on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in Rubanga, Sheema District.
