CECAFA U18: Uganda redeemed with 2-1 victory over Zanzibar

In a remarkable turnaround, Uganda’s U18 football team Wednesday emerged victorious against Zanzibar with a 2-1 win during their second match at the CECAFA U18 championship, hosted at Bukhungu Stadium in Kenya.

The game kicked off with a tense fifteen minutes, with both teams battling fiercely, resulting in a goalless scoreline.

However, the deadlock was broken in the 17th minute when Travis Mutyaba of the Uganda U18 team found the back of the net, putting his team in the lead.

As the clock ticked towards the thirtieth minute, Zanzibar responded with a goal, levelling the score at 1-1. The game remained intense, with both sides eager to secure a crucial win in the tournament.

In the 65th minute, Uganda’s fortunes took a positive turn when Zanzibar conceded an own goal, granting Uganda a 2-1 lead.

Despite relentless efforts from both teams in the final fifteen minutes, the scoreline remained unchanged.

With the final whistle, Uganda celebrated their first victory in the tournament, overcoming the setback of a 1-0 defeat to Tanzania in their previous match.

Travis Mutyaba’s goal and a pivotal own goal by Zanzibar marked a turning point for the Ugandan team.

Looking ahead, Uganda’s U18 squad is set to face South Sudan in their next fixture.

South Sudan, having secured a 2-1 win against Tanzania earlier on Wednesday, promises to be a formidable opponent in this tightly contested CECAFA U18 championship.

As Uganda prepares for their upcoming challenge, the team’s resilience and determination are sure to leave a lasting impression on the tournament.
