Zombo, (UG): A section of leaders of Persons Living with Disabilities (PWD) in Zombo District have tasked parents, guardians and family members to consider PWDS  in the allocation of family property for inheritance in the mobilization drive ahead of the yet-to-be-scheduled belated District commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The leaders and the PWDS members in their different caucuses noted with much concern how they are being deprived of their constitutional and biological rights to own family property through the inheritance schemes while affirming that disability is not inability.

DailyExpress has learnt that the leaders of the PWDS have failed to instate a Zombo district union for people living with disability to complement activities of the lower local government councils for Disability in the different administrative units of the district to effectively carry out advocacy, sensitization drives on issues affecting PWDs and lobby funds for the union as recommended during engagement organised by the leadership of the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) in the district.

It’s upon such broken communication chains and links that the PWDS are being underprivileged and their rights are violated.

Mr Albert Nega, the Chairperson and district Councillor representing PWDS in Paidha Town Council who also attended the National Celebrations for the Disability held in Mbarara early this month articulated told DailyExpress how they discussed the land and other property rights for people with disability.

He said parents guardians and family members of PWDs were strongly condemned for depriving PWDs of inheriting family property and called upon Zombo residents to desist from the act he described as greediness.

“I call upon our people of Zombo to desist from this greediness, PWDs give birth to physically able children let them inherit the family properties,” Nega said nervously during an exclusive interview with DailyExpress on Wednesday.
