Jinja, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kiira Region have in custody three suspects arrested on allegations of killing a fisherman whom they suspected of stealing fish from Akurut Irene commonly known as Mama Angel, a resident of Kisiima 2 Island in Jinja city.

Kiira regional police spokesperson SP James Mubi identified the deceased as Rogers who was reportedly beaten on Friday by two men identified as Moses Katasa and Magero Wliber, 29, before hanging his lifeless body in his house to beat security operatives with an impression that he had died by suicide.

“The fisherman identified as Rogers on May 3, 2024, allegedly stole over four fish meant for Irene Akurut, 35, commonly known as Mama Angel, a resident of Kisiima 2 Island in Jinja city. Mama Angel informed Moses Katasa and Wilber Magero 29. The trio reportedly beat up Rogers to death, they got the lifeless body of Rogers hanged it in his house to falsely give an impression that he committed suicide,” SP Mubi said in a Friday statement.

According to Mr Mubi, the trio reportedly locked up the house and exited through the window after the gruesome act but the residents notified police in time and the scene of the crime was critically examined.

“Against that background, the three suspects have been arrested, charged with murder and detained at CPS Jinja Central. The deceased’s body is at Jinja main hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” Mubi said before strongly cautioning the public against taking the law in their hands citing police intolerance in fighting acts of lawlessness in the region.

In another development, police in Jinja City are investigating the incident in which a 20-year-old woman died by suicide using a mosquito net on Friday evening.

The deceased who committed suicide in the bathroom of her landlady at around 3 pm on Friday, was identified as Mutesi Milly, a resident of Buwekula, North division in the City.

The preliminary police findings suggest that before the fateful day, Mutesi was having some unresolved misunderstandings in her love affair, accusing her boyfriend of having multiple partners which could be the origin of her death.

“Before meeting her fate, Mutesi had been having unresolved love affair misunderstandings, accusing her boyfriend of having multiple sexual partners, something she couldn’t purportedly tolerate,” Mr Mubi said, adding that she committed suicide using a mosquito net in the landlady’s bathroom at around 1500/C.
