AFCON 2023: DR Congo’s Bakambu heaps praise on AFCON city conditions

DR Congo striker Cedric Bakambu has commended the top-notch facilities provided by CAF at the AFCON City in San Pedro, expressing optimism as his country prepares for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.

Bakambu, who recently arrived at the newly built facility, shared his satisfaction with the reception in Abidjan and San Pedro, emphasizing the excellent accommodations and quality grounds.

“We were very well received whether in Abidjan or San Pedro. We were pleasantly surprised by the conditions in which we were received. The accommodation is great, as are the grounds. We have everything to compete better,” said Bakambu.

The Galatasaray forward believes these conditions will enhance their competitiveness in the tournament.

Absent from the 2021 edition, Bakambu, filled with ambition, sees the AFCON 2023 as an opportunity to make up for lost time.

“In football, everything is possible,” He started.

The talented striker looks forward to DR Congo’s campaign in Group F, which includes challenging opponents like Morocco, Zambia, and Tanzania.

Despite the tough group, Bakambu remains focused on his team.

“We don’t look too much at the other opponents. We focus on us.” He added.

Drawing lessons from the challenging qualifiers, he expresses confidence in his teammates and their ability to perform in the competition.

DR Congo kicks off their Côte d’Ivoire 2023 journey against Zambia on January 17, followed by a clash with Morocco on the 21st at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro.

The group stage concludes in Korhogo against Tanzania on January 24.

Bakambu emphasized the importance of starting the competition with seriousness, ambition, and the desire to have fun, hoping DR Congo rises to the challenge in this highly anticipated AFCON campaign.
