Kampala, (UG): Uganda’s Football Governing Body, FUFA (Federation of Uganda Football Associations) has made a remarkable stride in the sports industry by unveiling its official match ball, named ZAKAYO.
The ball, paying homage to Uganda’s legendary chimpanzee, brings a unique blend of symbolism and advanced technology to the world of football.
During the official launch event held Friday, February 16, 2024, at FUFA House Mengo, The Federation President, Eng Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim emphasized the profound impact of providing communities with access to a ball and playground.
“Whenever a community has access to a ball and playground, football stars are made.” He started.
ZAKAYO, priced at Ushs 50,000 and Ushs 100,000, features three patches of the Uganda flag, symbolizing ethnicity, abundant sunshine, and brotherhood.
The ball has undergone extensive testing on various grounds, including bare pitches, ensuring durability and optimal playing conditions.
Available for purchase at the FUFA Merchandise Shop in Mengo (FUFA Complex), ZAKAYO is set to become the official match ball for all FUFA Competitions, marking a significant shift in the sporting landscape.
In addition to the match ball revelation, FUFA also launched JANZI, the official FUFA Sportswear Manufacturer.
The fully-owned FUFA subsidiary will be responsible for producing all merchandise for the Federation’s brands, including National Teams.
To kickstart this venture, every StarTimes Uganda Premier League Club has received 25 ZAKAYO balls (20 for the Senior Team and 5 for the Junior Team). Betpawa Big League clubs and FUFA Women Super League clubs have also been endowed with 15 balls each.
The official launch event was graced by the presence of Crested Cranes players Zaina Nandede and Phiona Nabulime and some Uganda football legends adding a touch of star power to the ceremony.
With ZAKAYO and JANZI taking centre stage, FUFA is poised to elevate Ugandan football to new heights, combining tradition and innovation in perfect harmony.
