UFL: Makerere edges out UCU in Varsity Football League Quarters

Makerere University emerged victorious in the first leg of the Quarter-Finals against Uganda Christian University (UCU) on Thursday evening. 

Despite the weather interruptions, goals from Male Musa and Ddungu Nicholas secured a 2-1 win for the Enzymes as the highly anticipated clash between the 2012 champions, Makerere University, and UCU, the 2019 champions. 

The match saw early excitement as Male Musa broke the deadlock for the hosts with a close-range strike in the 17th minute.

However, UCU responded swiftly, with Gagganga Geoffrey finding the back of the net in the 30th minute. 

The game’s rhythm was disrupted as rain intensified, leading to a temporary pause in the 32nd minute due to a waterlogged pitch.

After the restart on Friday morning, Makerere University regained the lead in the 75th minute, courtesy of a goal from right back Ddungu Nicholas. 

Despite the challenging conditions, the Enzymes managed to secure a 2-1 victory in the first leg.

The final whistle blew, concluding a match filled with suspense and weather-related interruptions.

Makerere’s Male Musa and Ddungu Nicholas will be remembered for their pivotal goals that propelled the Enzymes one step closer to the University Football League title.

The attention now shifts to the second leg, where both teams will look to secure their spot in the semi-finals of the fiercely contested university football league.
