Zombo, (UG):- Zombo District is set to become the latest local government to implement President Museveni’s 4-acre model of commercial agriculture for wealth creation and food security as it bids to improve the livelihoods and household incomes of residents in the West Nile district.

The development came after the district councillors led by the LC5 Chairperson Mr James Oyullu Oruna attended a benchmarking tour on the implementation of property rate tax in Luwero and sustainable agricultural practices on the Museveni’s four acres model farm in Kawumu -Nakaseke District.

The empowered councillors expressed optimism about the implementation of the 4 acres model agriculture plan in Zombo district by championing it among community members in their respective town councils and sub-counties as it has always been advocated for by the President for quick realization and projection into commercialized agriculture and money economy respectively.

Zombo district, merited with agriculturally fertile soils, favourable climate and suitable topography is at meticulous advantages of harvesting more output from the Four-acre model agriculture plan that necessitates farmers to practice mixed farming on four acres of land, a practice of agriculture that has been thriving with very minimal challenges though hardly noticed and limited to livestock and agroforestry at most.

During an exclusive interview with DailyExpress on Monday, Mr Sadiki Onencan, the District councillor representing Paidha Town Council revealed that the 4-acre model agriculture plan is a beauty to adopt and rallied community members to embrace the practice.

“..in that 4 acres model there is a banana plantation, dairy, fish pond, maize, pineapple there is everything you just feel that you should become a farmer that is what we want to implement and we are telling our people to embrace the 4 acres model agriculture,” Onencan remarked.

Mr Hassan Ringtho, District speaker articulated his readiness to transform his community through the 4 acres model as he noted the feasibility and the need for commitment at most.

“I believe with this exposure the district councillors had in some period of time we shall see the replication of knowledge gained am now trying to manage my tomatoes better I promise my community to come and learn from me,” Ringtho iterated.

This publication learnt that the four-acre model agriculture plan only requires a farmer to use four acres of land for mass production; agroforestry, livestock, and fishery among other agricultural production.

This system is a perfect match for Zombo District given the available friendly climate and other factors of production though it’s likely to grapple because of the land wrangles and fragmentation.
