Buganda Clan Chief Daniel Bbosa shot dead in Kampala, assailants killed by mob

Kampala, (UG): The Territorial Police at Natete Division in Kampala are investigating a tragic murder incident in which Eng Daniel Bbosa Lwomwa, the Head of Ndiga (Sheep) Clan in the Buganda was evening shot dead by assailants riding on a motorcycle on Sunday evening.

The fatal shooting incident according to police occurred today at approximately 6:00 pm in Kikandwa Zone, Lungujja Parish, Lubaga Division.

“The incident involved Mr Daniel Bbosa, the esteemed head of Ndiga clan and director of Transa Electrical. Mr Bbosa was fatally shot by yet-to-be-identified assailants as he was approaching his residence,” Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police said confirming the incident in a Sunday police statement.

The assailants, according to Mr Owoyesigyire were riding on a motorcycle when opened fire at Mr. Bbosa’s motor vehicle, Reg No UAH 637X, resulting in his immediate demise.

“During the heinous act, a vigilant local resident bravely intervened, knocking down the assailants’ motorcycle and alerting the community. Swiftly, members of the community mobilized, leading to a confrontation with the assailants,” Owoyesigyire stated.

“Mob justice ensued, resulting in the death of one assailant at the scene, while the other remains in critical condition.”

Police said the motive behind the murder was still unknown by press time but emphasized that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The firearm used in the shooting was also recovered by police, along with the motorcycle registration number UEX 754E, utilized by the assailants.

These findings according to Mr Owoyesigyire will be instrumental in the ongoing police investigation.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, Clan Members, friends, and colleagues of Mr. Daniel Bbosa during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this tragic loss.”

The murder comes four days after the 2023 crime report compiled by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) shows 300 were killed using rifles.

According to CID, a single gun was used in at least 22 murders in 2023. Kampala metropolitan South region in which Lungujja falls had the highest number of murders by shooting in greater parts of the city and its outskirts.
