Police summon lawyer Ssemakadde over criminal libel

Kampala, (UG):- The Police in Kampala Metropolitan have asked maverick city lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde to present himself before the Criminal Investigations Director at Kampala CPS over an alleged criminal libel case, DailyExpress understands.

The summon signed by Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (D/ACP) Kagarura Bob who heads the CID Department at KMP require Ssemakadde to appear before the commander CID on Monday, February 26, 2024 (today), at 10. AM.

The meeting is in regard to a case of criminal libel and offences prejudicial to judicial proceedings against the city lawyer.

“…You are therefore required to report to the CID Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police at CPS Kampala building in Room 75 on Monday the 26th of February 2024 at 1000hrs (10:00 am) for a meeting regarding the alleged case of criminal libel and offences prejudicial to a judicial proceeding,” reads the summon in brief.

The summon is premised on Sec. 27 A (1), (2), (5) & (6) of the Police Act Cap 303 (as Amended) where “Police is mandated to invite/summon/require the attendance of any person whom the Police have reasons to believe has relevant/valuable information, exhibits or documents to assist In any Police Investigations.”

However, Mr Ssemakadde through his lawyers of GEM Advocates and Legal Consultants says he wrote to Buganda Road Ag Principal Chief Magistrate in a letter dated 6th November 2023 requesting a hearing date after several attempts to have his case heard since 2022 but in vain.
