Egyptian national, 32, goes missing in Soroti

Soroti, (UG):- The Territorial Police in East Kyoga region and Soroti West Division are currently investigating the disappearance of a 32-year-old Egyptian national Ahmed Zinhom Ibrahim Selim who went missing in Soroti City over the weekend.

Mr Zinhom, a Campswahili Cell A, Campswahili Ward in Soroti City East Division has been dealing in kitchenware accessories according to preliminary information obtained by police.

Reports indicate that the Egyptian national was last seen at his residence on Friday evening, February 23, 2024, in the company of two friends, one of whom is identified as Muhammad Nabil Ali, also an Egyptian, while the identity of the other friend remains unknown. 

However, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Zinhom’s employee, Mark Kisolo, visited his residence but found the door padlocked with the key placed next to the window.

“Upon entering, Kisolo discovered that no one was inside the house. He recovered Zinhom’s trousers, which he was reportedly wearing on the night of his disappearance,” said Mr Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman.

Ageca explained that a case of disappearance was officially registered on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Soroti City East Division. He however suspected foul play based on statements recorded and analysis of the victim’s house by the scene-of-crime detective officers.

“We also suspect foul play based on the analysis of the victim’s house by a team of detectives and crime scene Officers,” Ageca said.

Police urged the public to provide any kind of information about Ahmed Zinhom Ibrahim Selim which is to be provided on toll-free numbers 112 or 999, or the information be reported to East Kyoga regional headquarters.

“The territorial police asks for information about Ahmed Zinhom Ibrahim Selim to be provided on toll-free numbers 112 or 999 or brought to East Kyoga regional headquarters or at Soroti West  Division Police Station,” read the police statement.

Zinhom is one of the many Egyptian nationals in the country who are known for supplying kitchenware accessories to various individuals, including civil servants, often extending credit to their customers.

Locals say they normally conduct business door-to-door, sometimes targeting customers in rural areas.
