UFL Quarter Finals: Nkumba, Uganda Martyrs first leg ends in 1-1 draw

Entebbe, (UG):- Nkumba University Wednesday hosted defending champions Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) with the match ending all-square and all to play for in the second leg. 

The match promised excitement, and it certainly delivered as both teams battled fiercely for supremacy on the pitch.

The encounter began with an intense exchange of possession, with neither side willing to concede an inch. 

Despite several attempts from both teams to break the deadlock, the first goal came early in the game, just two minutes in, courtesy of a clinical finish from Nkumba’s Ismael Lubega. The home crowd erupted with joy as their team took the lead.

However, Uganda Martyrs University responded swiftly, with Akbal Ssentongo finding the back of the net in the 47th minute, levelling the scoreline and silencing the Nkumba faithful. 

The match intensified as both teams searched for a winner, creating chances and testing each other’s defences.

As the clock ticked down, Nkumba University came close to securing victory with a late chance, but a narrow miss denied them the opportunity to snatch all three points. 

With the final whistle blown, the points were shared, setting up an intriguing second-leg encounter in Nkozi.

The performance of both teams showcased their determination and skill, promising an exciting return fixture on Thursday, March 7.
