FA Cup quarter-finals: Man City draw Newcastle, as Liverpool, Man Utd meet in last 8

The draws of the Emirates FA Cup quarterfinals held Wednesday night pitted the top rivals in English football, Liverpool and Manchester United in the last eight tie as holders Manchester City set to face Newcastle United.

Erik ten Hag’s men needed to beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground, thanks to a late header from Casemiro to set up the showdown against Liverpool who dominantly eased past Southampton 3-0, with Jurgen Klopp’s teenagers starring on the night.

Goals from Lewis Koumas, and a Jayden Danns double were enough to see the Reds through to a tie that awaits their arch-rivals Manchester United in the quarter-finals of England’s oldest cup competition.

Additionally, Chelsea, who staged a comeback from an early Leeds United scare to win 3-2 face championship leaders Leicester City who edged Bournemouth in extra time on Tuesday night.

In the final draw, Wolves having defeated Brighton 1-0 at the Molineux Stadium complete the last eight draw with a tie against another Championship side Coventry City.
