Eria Luggya Lwasi named new Ndiga Clan head

Mengo, (UG): Members of Buganda Kingdom’s Ndiga clan have elected Eria Luggya Lwasi Buzaabo as their new clan head replacing Eng Daniel Bbosa Lwomwa who was last week assassinated by fellow clan members in a gruesome murder incident.

Erias Luggya was today (Friday) presented to Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga who will now introduce him to the Kabaka in respect of the Buganda clan and cultural norms.

Luggya’s unveiling at Mengo also means the burial arrangements of Lwomwa Eng Daniel Bbosa will now proceed as planned, as it was mandatory to proceed with the burial plans after a replacement is found.

Addressing the media at Bulange Mengo at Luggya’s unveiling, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga said burial arrangements have been delayed because of cultural norms.

According to Mayiga, they had to inform Buganda King (Kabaka) Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II about the demise of the clan leader.

“The Kabaka then tasks the Katikkiro to make sure that the clan gets the successor according to the specific clan’s culture,” he explained.

Mayiga added that “all the clans in Buganda Kingdom have different cultures on how they appoint their leaders, and this must be followed because it’s crucial.”

Lwasi is the son to the late Ezekeri Luggya Lwasi and Miriam Nabawanuka from Mpigi Mawokota. He is a married ICT engineer with children.

Ndiga clan is one of the 52 known clans of Buganda which are all well documented with clan heads and structured leadership.
