Iganga, (UG):- The leadership of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Iganga District have whispered to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is also the National chairperson of the ruling party to fix challenges that caused poor performance in the 2021 general elections.

The leaders anticipate the worst score in the coming general elections if the matters are not fixed.

The Iganga District NRM Chairperson, Hajj Walubi Abubakar during the belated NRM liberation celebrations (NRM Day) for Iganga district at the district headquarters on Thursday said fishermen were chased from lakes without any alternative route, something he says affected their performance in the 2021 elections since people were left hopeless.

“We need to have an alternative for fishmongers, either we provide them with standard boats and fishing nets or something else but we initiated problems when we decided to chase them without any alternative. I suspect that the rampant theft is resulting from many youths without jobs,” Hajj Walubi said.

Walubi pointed out other issues like the sugarcane price in Busoga and the alternative route for people operating in wetlands before sending them away. The other one is the various presidential pledges which haven’t been worked on like the Walugogo-Luuka-Kamuli road which was commissioned by the president during the 2021 campaigns.

The NRM government which has reigned for now close to 40 years continues to inflict pain to its immediate members, according to Hajj Walubi given the high level of corruption tendencies among themselves and this dismayed the NRM chairperson.

He also rallied fellow leaders to work collectively to ensure that the contract of 16 kilometer roads which were promised by President Museveni to Iganga municipality can be added to the Walugogo-Luuka-Kamuli road contract once its work resumes citing difficulty in securing a separate project for the municipality.

“If you don’t have a patient spirit, you may not last in it because whatever you see daily weakens the spirit especially corruption and embezzlement in this government of mine. If we don’t fight these things, our supporters will continue vacating the party. It irritates me every day to read about our very own involving in the embezzlement of public funds,” Walubi emphasized.

In her message to Iganga NRM fraternity, the national party director mobilization, cadre identification, recruitment and placement Hon. Rosemary Seninde Nansubuga urged the district stakeholders in the party to avoid misunderstandings amongst themselves but instead focus on achieving successful progress of government programs and projects to ensure continuity of development.

“We need to forward all the issues to the president and I pledge to push with you. I have heard a number of issues like the roads, market, public university among others and we shall do everything possible to forward them together with your leaders, because we need not only to celebrate this day but also to point out the challenges and devise means to address them,” Hon Seninde said.

Hon Seninde pledged serious mobilization in the region, calling upon all NRM leaders at various levels to invite the secretariat where need arises. She was concerned with the internal fights in the party saying NRM is always against themselves and this has since given limelight to oppositions in some areas, calling upon them to do their responsibilities at their levels.

“Some of the things burdening us as NRM is not opposition but NRM fighting itself. Wherever I have been in by-elections it’s NRM fighting NRM and not opposition and this gives chance to opposition to win. I want to encourage you to jealously protect your votes in 2026 and present NRM people who will work with the government to serve you better,” Hon Seninde added.
