FUFA Women Cup 2024: Roadmap unveiled for fifth edition, draws out

Kampala, (UG):- The anticipation for the fifth edition of the FUFA Women’s Cup reached new heights on Monday morning as the roadmap and draws for the prestigious tournament was unveiled at the FUFA Complex in Mengo.

Former Crested Cranes player, Ms Oliver Mbekeka took centre stage to conduct the drawing of lots, under the expert guidance of FUFA Competitions Director Aisha Nalule.

In an exciting draw procedure, the top teams from both the FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League were placed in Pot B, while Pot A featured formidable teams from the FUFA Women Elite League and various regions across Uganda.

With a record-breaking 40 teams registered for this edition, surpassing the previous tally by eight teams, Nalule expressed her delight, highlighting the significant increase in participation.

 “This edition has recorded the biggest number of teams participating since the inauguration of this competition,” Ms Mbekeka declared proudly.

The journey to the prestigious trophy will kick off with the round of 32 matches scheduled from March 14th to 17th, 2024. Notably, these matches will be decided by one-legged ties, with teams proceeding directly to penalty shootouts in case of a draw in normal time.

As the tournament progresses, the round of 16 clashes will take place on April 23rd and 24th, 2024, followed by the quarterfinals slated for May 25th and 26th, 2024. The semifinals are scheduled for June 1st and 2nd, 2024, setting the stage for an exhilarating climax.

Uganda Martyrs Ladies FC, the reigning champions, will be aiming to defend their title against formidable opponents from across the country.

The draw results for the round of 32 promise thrilling encounters, with matchups like EHCOS SS WFC versus FC Tooro Queens and Mpororo Queens FC against Lady Doves FC setting the stage for intense competition.

Looking ahead, the journey to the final will witness fierce battles and moments of brilliance, culminating in an epic showdown between the two finalists on either June 8th or 9th, 2024.

With the stage set and anticipation running high, football enthusiasts across Uganda eagerly await the unfolding drama and excitement of the FUFA Women’s Cup’s fifth edition.
