UPL: KCCA complete double against Vipers, Villa secure crucial away win

Entebbe, (UG):- Uganda Premier League giants KCCA FC Friday secured a historic victory at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende, ending their long-standing curse at the venue.

The Kasasiro Boys emerged triumphant with a 1-0 win over reigning champions Vipers SC, courtesy of a late goal by substitute Mustafa Kizza. The match witnessed a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams displaying their prowess and determination.

The first half saw Vipers dominate proceedings, showcasing their attacking prowess and threatening the KCCA defense on multiple occasions.

However, their efforts were thwarted as KCCA’s resilience held firm, denying Vipers any breakthroughs.

The turning point of the match came in the 19th minute when Vipers forward Yunus Sentamu was stretchered off due to injury, forcing the hosts to make an early substitution.

As the game progressed into the second half, KCCA grew into the match, seizing control of the midfield and mounting pressure on the Vipers’ defense.

The breakthrough finally came in the dying minutes of the game when Mustafa Kizza found the back of the net, sending the KCCA faithful into jubilation and ending their winless streak at Kitende.

Meanwhile, in another intense encounter, SC Villa secured a crucial away victory against BUL FC at Njeru.

David Owori emerged as the hero for Villa, netting the only goal of the game and propelling his side to a vital three points.

However, the match was not without its moments of controversy as BUL’s Gavin Kizito was shown a red card in the 58th minute, reducing the hosts to ten men.

BUL had a golden opportunity to equalize from the penalty spot, but Ibrahim Kazindula failed to convert, leaving the home fans disappointed.

With these results, SC Villa moved to 36 points in the league standings, maintaining their momentum in the title race. On the other hand, BUL’s struggles continued in the second round, further denting their aspirations for a higher finish.

The league table witnessed some significant changes following Match-Day 21, with Kitara FC leading the pack with 43 points, followed closely by Bul FC and NEC FC. Vipers SC slipped to fifth place, level on points with Sports Club Villa, highlighting the tight competition in the league.
