Security guard shot dead in Kampala days after foiled robbery at City Forex Bureau

Kampala, (UG): The Police in Kampala is actively investigating circumstances under which three assailants shot and killed a private security guard at a Forex Bureau in Kampala just days after Police hailed another security guard for foiling an armed robbery at a Bukoto-based Forex Bureau.

The guard identified as Mr. Agama Peter, in his late 30s, was fatally shot on Tuesday evening while on duty at Banxele Forex Bureau – Kabuusu Branch in Rubaga Division, Kampala and his firearm was forcibly taken.

“On the evening of March 19th, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in Kabusu, Rubaga Division. Three assailants on motorcycles, armed with a rifle, perpetrated a heinous act resulting in the loss of life of Mr. Agama Peter, a security guard affiliated with Wolves Security Group,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire said in a Wednesday statement.

According to Mr Owoyesigyire, eyewitnesses reported the swift departure of the assailants, leaving Mr. Agama fatally wounded in the gruesome incident which further adds to the fast rising cases of gun violence in the city center.

He added that swift action was taken by law enforcement and security agencies following the incident and a pursuit of the suspects yielded fruits when these were arrested from a betting house at Kawaala in the same Division.

“We can confirm that Sebuma Hussein, also known as Obote, Dumba David, and Abdullah Jumah, have been taken into custody,” Mr Owoyesigyire stated, addinf that “Two firearms were recovered during the operation: UG PSO 56 4000868 12452, along with 13 rounds (presumably the firearm belonging to the deceased), and another firearm, believed to have been used in the commission of the crime, with 10 rounds.”

Mr Owoyesigyire affirmed that investigation into this tragic event is ongoing, and promised to furnish the public with further details will be made available in due course.

“The deceased was upon inspection of his body found to have sustained three gunshot wounds, and with evidence recovered from the crime scene, which will be meticulously examined as part of the investigative process.”

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been respectfully conveyed to the City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination.
