Cabinet Reshuffle: Balaam, Nyamutoro eat big in new appointments, Ssempijja, Ntabaazi dropped

Kampala, (UG): President Yoweri Museveni has appointed renowned Events Promoter Mr Balaam Barugahara as the new State Minister for Youth and Children in the new cabinet reshuffle dropped on Thursday evening.

Balaam, a sworn member of the NRM ruling government and one of the leaders in First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) replaces Hon Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi who has since been transferred to the docket of Defence Ministry, as state minister in charge of Veteran Affairs.

In other notable changes, Youthful MP, Phiona Nyamutoro has also been appointed state minister in the new cabinet taking on the position of Peter Lokeris who has now been named Cabinet Minister in charge of Karamoja Affairs, replacing Dr Mary Groetti Kitutu.

Meanwhile, Hon Florence Nambozo Wamala takes on Agnes Nandutu’s position as state minister for Karamoja, with the changes taking immediate effect upon full vetting by the parliament.

In the new changes reflected in the reshuffle, President Museveni appointed Mr Kenneth Omona who has been serving as PPS as minister of state in charge of Northern Uganda, replacing Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, now appointed Presidential Advisor.

Additionally, Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi who has been serving as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) is now Minister of State for Trade, also replacing Hon Harriet Ntabaazi, also dropped and named Presidential Advisor.

“I hereby inform the country that By virtue of the authority given to the President of Uganda by Articles: 108(2), 108A(1), 113(1), and 114(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, that here below I publish a slightly amended list of the cabinet of Uganda,” President Museveni said on Thursday evening as he unveiled the list of changes in the cabinet reshuffle.

In the reshuffle, Mr Museveni also appointed Ms Asio Omaswa as the new Principal Private Secretary (PPS) and transferred the former Deputy PPS, Irene Birungyi to the Public Service Ministry for immediate deployment.
