UPC’s Sarah Aguti wins Dokolo Woman MP By-election

Dokolo, (UG):- The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate, Ms Sarah Aguti has been declared the winner of the Dokolo District Woman MP seat after garnering the most votes in Thursday’s By-election.

Ms Aguti was Thursday evening declared winner of the election by Dokolo District Returning Officer, Mr Erikwaine Ngobi after she polled 23044 votes in the total 173 polling stations scattered across the northern Uganda district to beat five other candidates in the race.

“As a Returning officer for Dokolo Electoral District and in accordance with Section 53 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, declare Aguti Sarah who has obtained the largest number of votes, the winner and District Representative to Parliament, Dokolo Electoral District,” Ngobi declared on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, Aguti’s closest competitor, Ms Rose Adong Janet Elau of the ruling NRM party came second with 14001 votes, while the late Cecilia Ogwal’s daughter, Dr Rosemary Acwol Ogwal who carried opposition FDC’s flag came in third place with 8168 votes and NUP’s Harriet Ageno fourth with 727 votes.

Two independent candidates in the race, Ms Akullo Esther-Obot and Rebecca Arao had 790 and 439 votes respectively.

The Dokolo District Woman MP Seat fell vacant following the death of the former MP. Cecilia Ogwal on 18th Jan 2024.
