FULL LIST: Mabaati ministers Kitutu, Nandutu dropped as Museveni rings ‘mini cabinet reshuffle’

Kampala, (UG): President Yoweri Museveni Thursday evening announced the long-awaited cabinet reshuffle with Karamoja Minister Dr Mary Goretti Kitutu and her junior Agnes Nandutu among those dropped in the changes.

“I hereby inform the country that By virtue of the authority given to the President of Uganda by Articles: 108(2), 108A(1), 113(1), and 114(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, that here below I publish a slightly amended list of the cabinet of Uganda,” President Museveni said on Thursday evening as he unveiled the list of changes in the cabinet reshuffle.

Kitutu, who came into the limelight for being behind the Karamoja iron sheets bonanza has been replaced by Simon Peter Lokeris, while Hon Florence Nambozo Wamala takes on Nandutu’s position.

In other notable changes of the 2024 cabinet reshuffle, President Museveni appointed Dr Balam Barugahara of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) as the new Minister of State for Gender & Labour in charge of Youth and Children Affairs.

Meanwhile, Hon Phiona Nyamutooro, (Youth MP) now takes over as State Minister for Energy, a position previously held by Peter Lokeris (now Karamoja Affairs Minister), while Ms Sarah Nyirabashitshi, who has been the Youth and Children Affairs Minister has been transferred to the Defence Ministry as state minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs.

Her Predecessor, Hon Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja has been dropped from the cabinet and subsequently appointed as Presidential Advisor, along with Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, who has been State Minister for Northern Uganda affairs.

Kwiyucwiny has since been replaced with Dr Kenneth OMona, who until the time of his ministerial appointment was a Principal Private Secretary to the President at the State House.

Other Presidential Advisors appointed include NRM’s Women League Chairperson, Ms Lydia Wanyoto Mutende and Harriet Ntabaazi (dropped as Minister of State for Trade). The latter has been replaced with Gen Wilson Mbadi, the Chief of Defence Forces.

Retained list

In the new cabinet, President Museveni has retained his Vice President, Rtd Maj Jesca Alupo as Hon Robinah Nabbanja as Prime Minister, as well as former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga who returns as first Deputy Prime Minister while Moses Ali is also back as second Deputy Prime Minister, and Lukia Isanga Nakadama as 3rd Deputy Prime minister.

Also retained are; First Lady, Hon Janet Kataha Museveni as Education Minister, Milly Babalanda as Minister for Presidency, Gen Jim Muhwezi as Minister for Security and Hajjat Minsa Kabanda as Minister for Kampala among others.
