Former FDC spokesperson, Sarah Eperu is dead

Kampala, (UG):- Veteran politician and former Spokesperson of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Hon Sarah Eperu is dead.

Eperu, one of the iron ladies in the FDC, passed away on Sunday, April 07, 2024, at LifeLink Hospital in Namugongo where she had been rushed for medical attention.

The news of Eperu’s passing was shared by FDC in a post via X platform mourning the demise of their former member who served in various capacities of the party;

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our comrade and dedicated member of the party, Hon. Sarah Eperu,” a statement posted by FDC read in part.

The former FDC president, Dr Kizza Besigye also took to X to mourn the deceased member describing her passing as devastating for the party and Uganda at large. “Just been given the very sad news of the passing of our veteran political activist Sarah Eperu- devastating,” Besigye posted.

Hon. Eperu served the party in various positions as the former Spokesperson of the Women’s League and, until her passing, as the Chairperson of the Kapir County Constituency Branch in Ngora District,” the party said on X.

The late’s son, Mr Emmanuel Eperu Magala said they rushed her to the hospital at around 8:00 pm after she complained of general body weakness.

“We asked her what was paining her and she said it was just general body weakness. We gave her glucose and then decided to rush her to hospital but unfortunately, she passed away,” Magala said.

By press time on Monday morning, Eperu’s family was organising to take her remains to Mulago Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy report as FDC prepares the burial arrangements.
