SC Villa, Vipers battle to goalless draw in UPL derby

Kampala, (UG):- SC Villa and Vipers SC Tuesday clashed in a high-stakes Uganda Premier League encounter ending in a deadlock with both sides unable to find the net.

Despite the absence of goals, the match was filled with drama and missed opportunities, leaving both teams eager for redemption in their pursuit of the title.

Taking centre stage at Wankulukuku stadium in Kampala, SC Villa and Vipers SC showcased their tactical prowess and determination from the outset.

With Kitara FC leading the table, both teams were aware of the significance of securing three points to keep their title aspirations alive.

Vipers SC, fielding a formidable midfield duo of Frank Katongole and Patrick Mbowa, aimed to dominate possession and dictate the tempo of the game. However, SC Villa’s resilience and strategic play kept their opponents at bay, denying them clear-cut opportunities.

Despite Villa’s control of possession, it was Vipers who created the most promising chances throughout the match. Arnold Odong’s early mistake nearly cost Villa dearly, but Vipers failed to capitalize on the opportunity, squandering a golden chance to take the lead.

As the match progressed, tensions rose, with both teams vying for supremacy. Milton Karisa’s precise cross found Yunus Sentamu in a dangerous position, but the forward’s inability to convert highlighted the frustration of missed opportunities plaguing both sides.

In the closing minutes of the game, SC Villa had a chance to clinch victory as Abasi Kyeyune surged past Vipers defenders, setting up Patrick Jonah Kakande for what seemed like the winning goal. However, Kakande’s wayward shot sailed over the bar, epitomizing Villa’s struggles in front of goal.

As the final whistle blew, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0, leaving both teams with mixed feelings of disappointment and relief.

While SC Villa and Vipers SC moved two and three places below Kitara FC respectively, the leaders maintained their position despite having played an additional game.
