Iganga, (UG):- Grief and shock befell residents of Buwenda village, Magogo parish, Nawaningi Sub County in Iganga district after finding the lifeless body of a boda cyclist on Tuesday morning. The tragic incident attracted a number of people who at first failed to recognize him and reported the matter to police.
The cyclist who was killed and his motorcycle taken by perpetrators was later identified as Kakano Bosco, 37, alias Pastor, a resident of Nampirika village, Nakalama sub-county in Iganga district.
The chairperson LC1 Buwande village which neighbours Buwenda village, Mr. Gabonagana George told DailyExpress that the deceased was transporting three sacks of charcoal from Luuka district before the attack by killers who ended his life in the swamp separating the two villages before moving on with his boda boda.
“He was killed and dumped in the swamp which separates Buwenda village and Buwande village. He was carrying three sacks of charcoal and we suspect that he was hit using a big stick which was abandoned at the scene of the crime and some people said he has always been transporting charcoal via this very route,” Mr. Gabonagana said.
The LC3 chairperson of Nawaningi sub-county who doubles as the chairperson for LC3 chairpersons in Iganga district Mr. Yakubu Ndhaye Wakabi condemned the incident before calling upon all people to be vigilant and avoid moving during late hours.
“In today’s night, a boda cyclist was killed and his motorcycle taken. His body was dumped in the swamp and the three sacks of charcoal were abandoned adjacent to the lifeless body. We call upon people with their missing person to crosscheck with Iganga General Hospital mortuary and establish whether he is the one,” Mr Ndhaye said.
Busoga East police spokesperson SSP Diana Nandawula said police have mounted a hunt for the perpetrators who killed Kakano Bosco so that they can be brought to book.
“We have started hunting for the killers who ended the life of a 37-year-old man who was reportedly moving from Luuka side before being attacked by assailants at Buwenda village and used sticks to hit him,” SSP Nandawula said, adding that the head had a deep wound and the nose was severely smashed.
The body was ferried to Iganga General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination as a search for the motorcycle and killers continued.
Police say, once apprehended, the killers will be charged with among others murder.
