Iganga, (UG):- A section of Anglican faithful from Magogo parish, Central Busoga Diocese under their group of Magogo Parish Men and Women of Valour have donated at least 114 bags of cement estimated to shs4m as their humble contribution to the construction of the three-billion Iganga Cathedral.

Early last year in January, the diocese led by the Archbishop Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu broke the ground for the construction of a State-of-the-art Cathedral to replace the current All Saints Cathedral Iganga whose sitting capacity cannot accommodate the current and the anticipated future population.

The group of thirteen committed men and women were on Friday, April 12, 2024, led by Mr. Eria Kisambira, the church coordinator of Magogo parish in Central Busoga diocese who said they heard a call for support to the work of God from the Diocesan leadership and they had to respond to the call by mobilizing themselves to raise the cement which they handed over to Central Busoga Diocese Bishop Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula.

“Today we have come as Men and Women of Valor from Magogo Parish to respond to the call of constructing the Cathedral which was made. This group of thirteen people has managed to solicit 114 bags of cement which is equivalent to around shs4m, as our humble contribution and support to the work of our Father,” Mr. Eria Kisambira said before handing over bags of cement to Bishop Wakula on behalf of the group.

He commended the thirteen members for their commitment towards supporting the work of God and rallied the entire community of Central Busoga Diocese to continue giving in towards the historical work.

“We can see that the work has moved but still there is more effort required to have it at 100% completion, therefore I call upon the entire Christians from Central Busoga Diocese to continue supporting this work since it is moving at a promising speed. I want to thank all our members who have contributed because some of them were far away and could not come with us but they had to give in for the sake of God’s work,” Mr. Kisambira said.

However, the Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula, who received the 114 bags of cement, commended the team of Men and Women of Valor for their generous contribution toward the work of the Almighty God saying they are currently raising shs360m to raise the multi-billion structure to the roofing stage.

“We have our current budget of shs360m to elevate the whole structure to the roofing stage and thereafter we shall have to embark on soliciting shs720m which will procure metallic roofing bars, roofing nails, iron sheets and other assortments necessary for roofing work. I want to thank you on behalf of the diocese for supporting the work of God and it is my prayer that God rewards you,” Bishop Wakula said.

We have understood from Bishop Wakula that the diocese wants by June 2, 2024, to have the money necessary to push the Cathedral to the roofing step, and the engineering department will have to raise the concrete support columns and walls to the roofing stage and also set the gallery.

He rallied the general public for more support to ensure that the Cathedral is completed in the shortest time possible.
