How police arrested suspects who beat up Muslim girl for going to church for prayers

Kibuku, (UG):- The Police at Kibuku Station in Kibuku District have formally issued a statement regarding the incident in which an 18-year-old Naula Shakira was subjected to brutal assault from her uncles accusing her of going for church prayers while she’s a Muslim.

Shakira’s assault case came to the limelight after a video recording of the incident went viral on social media, unveiling a dire situation in the eastern Uganda district.

According to the official police statement, the appalling attack which has since attracted public criticism and commentary unveiled over the weekend at Bwase 1 village, Bugolya Parish, Kadama sub-county, Kibuku district.

Shakira, a young Muslim woman, had allegedly visited the Kibuku Prayer Convention Church, led by Pastor Kitibwa Nichola, a 38-year-old resident of Kadama town council to seek for prayer and deliverance from spiritual attacks, as alleged.

Prompted by the distressing footage, the police swiftly intervened to rescue Shakira and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“At approximately 20:30, a coordinated effort by Kibuku’s security team, led by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and the District Police Commander (DPC), descended on Bwase 1 village to apprehend those responsible. Seven suspects, including maternal uncles and an aunt of the victim, were promptly arrested for interrogation and further investigation,” said Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson, SP Semewo Samuel.

Mr Semewo identified the suspects as Higenyi Jaberi, 50, Nantege Yusufu, 28, Muhammad, 24, Lumans Jaberi, 25, Koosu Uthuman, 25, Wasereye Issa, 24 and Musenero Ziyadi, a 29-year-old aunt from the same address.

“All suspects are currently held at the Kibuku Police Station as authorities continue their inquiry into the harrowing incident that unfolded on the night of the assault.” SP Semewo added. 

DailyExpress has exclusively learned that the victim resided with her aunt, Musenero Ziyadi, who also finds herself among the suspects.

Shakira’s biological mother is reportedly working in Saudi Arabia and the whereabouts of her father are currently not known.
