Alebtong, (UG): The Territorial Police in Alebtong District are detaining three suspects at Alebtong CPS to aid investigation surrounding the circumstances that led to the death of a 46-year-old man from the home of area LC1.

The deceased; Simon Joseph Odir was a resident of Cinge village, Ogwolo Sub County in Kalaki district while the suspects have been identified as Denis Oyuku, 27, Eunice Awor 28 and Hellen Apio 47 old and wife of LC1 Chairman of Abwaa village, Abako Sub County.

Police said the incident according to preliminary findings occurred on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Abwaa village, Abako Sub County.

Richard Oyaka, a neighbour to LC1’s home narrated to police how Odir on April 28, 2024, went to the home of Eunice Awor, a widow he had inherited but separated due to unending violence.

“The deceased is called Simon Odir. At around midnight went to the home of Awor, a woman he inherited in our village. They have been together for two and half years but all along they have been having disputes that angered Odir for the unproductive time they had and he wanted to cause revenge,” Oyaka said

The intentions of Odir according to Oyaka were to destroy the house but the woman made an alarm which attracted the intervention of clan members who arrested and took Odir to LC1 home for custody.

David Omara, the LC1 chairperson of Abwaa village, said on the wee hour of Sunday he was called to get out to receive suspect Odir but declined to accept him and advised the clan members who had brought him to settle the matter at the clan level.

“On the 28th while I was sleeping I heard a call and when I got out to ask what was going on I was told to keep the suspect they had brought but I instead advised them to go back and settle the matter at the clan level. I later left for my bed,” Omara said.

“The following morning they came back with the clan leader to my home and said they had followed the suspect little did I know that my wife had opened my son’s hut and the suspect was put in. Upon checking the hut, we found the suspect Odir hanging,” Omara adds.

A police officer from Alebtong police station who asked for anonymity confirmed that they are holding the trio to help them with their investigation. The officer revealed that statements from the suspects have already been recorded.
