Lira, (UG):- Religious leaders have challenged Journalists in the Lango sub-region to desist from associating with the wrong elements who leave no impact on their lives.

The words of wisdom came during the requiem mass for fallen Unity Fm Journalist Paul Anyai, held at St Augustine Church Barogole, Lira City recently.

Paul Anyai popular as Pollo, in his early 30 died on 27th April at his rented house in Lira City West Division, with the cause of death not yet known.

Rev Captain Moses Ocwio, while delivering his sermon some Journalists live reckless lifestyles that bear no impact on society.

According to Rev Ocwio, journalism work is a good calling but some bad people in the community tend to influence other Journalists hence joining bad peers.

“Journalists are influential people in the community but I urged them not to associate with the wrong element. That way we the final consumers will have hope in them,” said Ocwio.

“Better draw close to God as opposed to Leisure that most people have taken over these days,” He added

Correspondingly, Rev venerable William Otim Odur, in the same event warned fellow religious leaders in urban areas against holding funeral services for the pagans.

“I want to make this one very clear. There is a tendency of clan leaders in the City who once a town dweller dies, you come and force Church leaders in the village to bury even though the deceased was a pagan. This must stop,” Rev Odur warned.

Sam Atul, the Mayor of Lira City and one of the directors of Unity Fm-Lira where Anyai Paul has been working says most radio personalities mobilize people to live healthy and fulfill life but not again embracing the same.

“Friends, love us heartedly. Stop buying radio personalities alcohol but rather support their wellbeing,” Mr Atul said.

The deceased was laid to rest at their ancestral home in Amola village, Barmindyang parish, Ayer Sub-county in Kole district. He is survived by two boys aged 7 and 9 respectively.
