Tough penalties await those who disrupt census exercise in Masaabaland

Mbale, (UG):- A high-level stakeholders engagement meant to strategize on how to mobilize citizens and residents of Mbale City to participate in the National Housing and Population Census 2024 Thursday took place as the region prepares for the national exercise.

The strategic team which included city mayor Mr Namugali, Mbale RCC Mr Rex Acheli, and his deputy RCCs for the respect divisions; Hamza Banga (industrial) and Yahaya Were (Northern) and the spokesperson Inzu ya Masaaba Cultural Institution Mr Steven Masiga and police and prison leadership of the Elgon and the interreligious council members and representative of UBOs madam Dorcus and the city planner Mr Wotsomu represented at the high-level meeting held at Mbale City Chambers.

The RCC for Northern Division, Mr Yahaya Were brought to the attention of the committee members about some wrong elements who have vowed to disrupt the census exercise and warned that authorities already have a cure for such behaviour.

Under the UBOS Act 1998 ,there are sufficient safe guards and penalties in place for any body found disrupting such a meaningful exercise.

The inzu ya Masaba and the interreligious council representatives pledged to mobilize their respective constituencies to participate in the upcoming census slated for tomorrow.

The RCC Mbale City instructed police commanders to ensure that there is sufficient deployment to ensure the smooth running of the exercise.

“The population census has enormous benefits to the country and every one should participate,” remarked Mr Kassim Namugali the Mbale City Mayor while closing the meeting
