KIU medical student found dead in hostel room

Bushenyi, (UG):- The Territorial Police in western Uganda’s Bushenyi District are investigating how a student at Kampala International University (KIU)’s Western campus in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality died in a shocking incident at the hostel he was staying in.

The deceased identified as Othieno Isaac 33, a Kenyan national was discovered dead on Saturday morning in his room at Cell D, Ishaka Division in the Municipality.

The Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson Mr Martial Tumusiime, confirmed the incident and said the deceased was last seen on Friday, May 09, 2024, at his Hostel where he has been staying, before he disappeared.

“In the evening of 10/05/2024 neighbours started getting bad smell coming from his room with flies moving around,” said Mr Tumusiime.

“They (neighbours) alerted the security guard over the same matter and security guard alerted the hostel manager who also reported the matter to Ishaka police station,” he added.

Mr Martial said according to police preliminary findings, it is alleged that the deceased was found with different medicines like Pethidine hydrochloride injections, Clonazepam drugs, Syringes and medical documentation which showed that he had Psychiatric disorders and had been on different kinds of treatment.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s body was later conveyed to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for postmortem and establish the cause of death.
