Uganda Premier League brace for ‘super finale’ as four teams battle for title on final day

The Uganda Premier League (UPL) is braced for yet again a thrilling conclusion to the 2023/24 season, with the top four teams – SC Villa, BUL FC, Vipers SC, and Kitara FC – all in contention for the league title.

With SC Villa currently leading the table, their match against NEC FC at MTN Omondi Stadium has been designated as the grand venue, where the FUFA President and other distinguished guests will be in attendance.

Should SC Villa, BUL FC, or Vipers SC emerge as champions on Saturday, May 18th, the crowning ceremony will take place on the same day.

However, if Kitara FC wins the title, the ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 19th at Masindi Stadium, starting at 12:00 pm.

All matches involving title contention will be broadcast live on TV, as previously announced. SC Villa, currently on 54 points, needs to match results from other title contenders or secure a win against NEC to clinch the championship, regardless of other outcomes.

Vipers have their eyes on the prize to defend the title they won in 2022/23 season

The UPL Chief Executive, Mr Bernard Bainamani, the league revealed its arrangements for the champion crowning ceremony. He says the UPL plans to ensure an exciting conclusion to the season, with fans eagerly anticipating the final matches and the crowning of the 2023/24 champion.

“We are thrilled to have four teams in contention for the title, and we have made arrangements to ensure a smooth and exciting conclusion to the season,” said Bainamani in a statement issued by UPL on Thursday.

“We wish all teams the best of luck and look forward to a thrilling finale.”
