SC Villa Saturday clinched their 17th Uganda Premier League title, ending a 20-year wait, after defeating NEC FC 2-0 in the final league fixture at the Njeru Technical Centre in Buikwe District.

Charles Lwanga and Hakim Kiwanuka scored the decisive goals, securing Villa’s victory and cementing their dominance in Ugandan football.

This triumph marked a dramatic turnaround from last season’s heartbreak, when Villa fell short against URA FC on the final day. The team’s persistence and determination under coach Dusan Stojanovic have paid off, earning them a well-deserved championship.

The match was filled with tension, as Villa’s title contenders, Kitara and Vipers, were also leading in their respective matches, creating a thrilling finish to the season.

The breakthrough came in the 66th minute when Charles Lwanga headed in a precise cross from Umar Lutalo, igniting wild celebrations among the Villa supporters.

The atmosphere turned carnival-like when Patrick Jonah Kakande set up Kiwanuka for the second goal, sealing the victory.

SC Villa concludes the season with 57 points, narrowly edging out BUL and Vipers, who finished with 56 points each. Kitara secured fourth place and will now focus on the Uganda Cup final against NEC.

Meanwhile, UPDF FC’s 1-0 victory over Wakiso Giants ensured their survival in the Uganda Premier League, relegating Busoga United and Gaddafi FC to the Big League.

SC Villa has further cemented its dominance in Ugandan football, clinching its 17th Uganda Premier League title.

The Jogoos’ triumph solidified their position as the most successful team in the league’s history, surpassing their arch-rivals KCCA by four titles.

SC Villa’s impressive haul of 17 titles is a testament to the team’s consistency and dedication to excellence. Their record includes a streak of five consecutive titles from 1986 to 1990, a feat that has yet to be matched by any other team.

KCCA, with 13 titles, comes closest to SC Villa’s impressive record. The Lugogo-based team has consistently been a strong contender in the league, but has struggled to match SC Villa’s dominance.

Express FC, another traditional giant, has seven titles to its name, while Vipers SC, with six titles, has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in recent years.

URA FC, Maroons FC, Simba FC, Coffee FC, Nile Breweries FC, Police FC, and UCB FC complete the list of teams that have won the coveted Uganda Premier League title.

SC Villa’s latest triumph is a testament to the team’s enduring legacy and its commitment to developing Ugandan football. As the team celebrates its 17th title, fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating what the future holds for this Ugandan football powerhouse.
