Jinja, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kiira Region have arrested and detained a 26-year-old secondary teacher of Eagles Nest SS in Mengo Kensenyi for allegedly pouring acid on his five-month expectant wife and three others including stepchildren.

The suspect currently in custody at Kakira central police has been identified as Rogers Ngobi, 26, a born of Kalalu village, Buyinda sub county Kaliro district and teacher and resident of Namusera in Wakiso district.

Ngobi is accused of committing the act on Sunday, May 19, 2024, when he reportedly poured acidinc liquid on his wife Shallot Kwagala, 30, and two stepsons identified as Elvis Mukisa, 6, and Elijah Mununuzi, 3. The heartless incident also left Kwagala’s Auntie Mwima Lovisa, 47, injured with burns as well as the wife and stepsons.

“Kwagala sustained third-degree burns on her head, face, breasts, back and waist. Elvis Mukisa sustained severe burns on his face and eyes. Lovisa Mwima sustained burns on her right hand and lastly, Elijah Mununuzi sustained minor spills,” SP Mubi James, the Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed in a Monday police statement, adding that the victims are now receiving treatment at Buwenge General Hospital in Jinja district.

According to preliminary police findings, trouble began when Ngobi stormed the Sunday family meeting intended to resolve domestic misunderstandings between him and his wife Shallot Kwagala at the latter’s maternal home of Kwagala in Nakagyo cell, Buyengo Town Council, Jinja district.

The meeting didn’t yield positive results according to Rogers because his wife strongly refused to go back citing the dubious, promiscuous, and violent character of his husband.

DailyExpress understood that Kwagala and Ngobi reportedly got in touch last year in November 2023 while she was working at Mingo Hotel Kayunga after a meeting via OBs & OGs WhatsApp group of St. Stephen SSS Budondo in Jinja district.

According to Kwagala, Ngobi lured her to a lucrative job offer worth one hundred million shillings in Kampala saying he owns a kiosk of general merchandise worth one hundred million shillings, and that he would make her a co-director with the additional duty of running the day-to-day activities of the business.

The victim was left with no option apart from leaving her hospitality job in favour of the lucrative business as promised by the new lover in Ngobi Rogers.

“When Kwagala reached Kampala things didn’t go as well as expected, she was shocked to find no kiosk dealing in general merchandise, she was taken to a single rented room in Namusera in Wakiso district with only a a small mattress and jerry cans in the house,” Mubi explained.

As a result, Police told DailyExpress that the two fell into love and started living as husband and wife for nearly seven months, and as time went by, Kwagala started accusing Ngobi of demanding too much of the conjugal rights on top of being quarrelsome, very violent, and changing women every day something she could no longer tolerate, hence prompting her to run for her life.

From Wakiso she went to her Auntie’s place in Mbaale in Mayuge Town Council, Mayuge district where Ngobi followed her up before convincing her to rent a single room in Mbaale and purportedly paid for two months to the tune of 80,000 shillings.

“While at Mbaale the situation worsened and she ran to her maternal home in Nakagyo cell in Buyengo Town Council in Jinja district she narrated her painful ordeal and the Uncles called for an urgent meeting from nowhere, Ngobi stormed the meeting and removed blue smaller jerrican from his pockets and poured liquid (acid) on his wife, two stepsons and Kwagala’s Auntie,” SP Mubi confirmed.

The community alerted security authorities and Buyengo police swiftly responded and arrested Ngobi Rogers who is currently detained at Kakira CPS on charges of attempted murder and assault.

According to Mubi, prosecution-led investigations are ongoing and he commended the community of Nakagyo for reporting the matter to police.

By press time on Monday, the administration of Buwenge Hospital was yet to sign a referral of Kwagala Shallot to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in the burn unit for further medical management.
