“We could easily see that H.E. Raisi was a dedicated worker and unifier for his Country and for the Tri-continental struggle for justice by Asia, Africa, and Latin America and the peace-loving People of Europe,” Mr Museveni remarked.

Earlier in the day, President Museveni visited the Iranian Embassy in Kampala where he signed a condolences book. He was received by Iran’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Majid Saffar,

Reflecting on a recent encounter with Raisi during his visit to Uganda, President Museveni shared a touching anecdote, stating,

“When he visited us recently, we finished the government bilateral functions late, as dusk was gathering. However, he insisted on going to the suburbs at night to visit the pro-people projects Iran had constructed,” Museveni revealed.

President Museveni further highlighted Raisi’s commitment to fostering interfaith harmony by recounting how the late President, a Shia, paid a visit to the Old Kampala mosque which belongs to the Sunni sect.

“I could see a patriot in His Excellency. It is a pity he died prematurely. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” added President Museveni, expressing his sorrow at the loss.

Raisi died in a helicopter that crashed last Sunday. He was travelling with Iran’s Foreign Minister and other companions who all died in the crash.
