JINJA: University student held over defiling 11-year-old girl

Jinja, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Jinja have arrested and detained a student of Gulu University on charges of aggravated defilement after defiling an 11-year-old female juvenile.

Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, SP James Mubi confirmed the report and identified the suspect as Michael Onya, offering a Bachelor of Education at Gulu University who is currently detained at Kakira Central Police Station.

Mubi says the suspect lured the victim using deceptive means of teaching her jumping rope games and he was purportedly attracted to the swinging and skipping skills of the victim during the games.

“On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the suspect lured the victim using deceptive means of teaching her jumping rope games at around 10 am. It’s reported that Onya got attracted to the swinging and skipping skills of the victim during the jumping rope games,” SP Mubi said in a statement on Wednesday.

DailyExpress has learnt that Onya is a brother to Ruth Ameto, a security guard attached to ISIS private Security Company belonging to Madhavani Group, residing in an oil mill camp in Kakira sugar estate and they are immediate neighbours with the home where the victim comes from.

It is further reported according to previous records that Onya had been gifting her with chapatis and jolly jus juice especially in the absence of responsible persons in the neighbourhood, till Tuesday when the suspect forcefully gained entry to the house of the victim’s sister and defiled the girl.

“On a fateful day, the suspect used forceful means to gain entry to the victim who had locked herself in her sister’s house following deceptive measures of the suspect that he had bought for her a new rope to be used in the jumping rope games,” SP Mubi added.

Police said that after the defilement, the victim became helpless and very unconscious with too much pain but kept on alarming for help until neighbours came to her rescue and alerted Kakira police who immediately swung into action and apprehended the culprit.

Police have since retrieved exhibits of evidence value like the knicker, and skirt, among others pending submission to a government analytical laboratory for expert opinion examination and analysis as prosecution-led investigations go on.

However, according to the medical examination conducted, the victim reportedly experienced a painful rupture.
