Kampala, (UG):- The Police at Old Kampala Division are actively investigating a shooting incident in which a security guard attached to SGA on Monday evening shot and injured a man suspected to be a criminal at a mall in Kisneyi, a city suburb.
The incident according to KMP Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owwoyesigyire happened at Gwanda Mall, Kisenyi Parish, Kampala Central, at approximately 6 PM.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the suspect identified as Kalyebi Ismail, a security guard attached to SGA, was on duty at Gwanda Mall when he arrested Katongole, whom he suspected to be a criminal.
“During the arrest, a struggle ensued, and Katongole overpowered Kalyebi Ismail. In response, Kalyebi shot Katongole once in the waist, thereby disabling him,” Mr Owoyesigyire stated in a police statement on Tuesday afternoon.
“Upon receiving information about the incident, the territorial police units of Muzaana and Old Kampala responded to the scene and managed to evacuate the victim to Mulago Hospital, where he is currently admitted with a gunshot wound to the stomach,” he added.
Mr Owoyesigyire explained that police have also retrieved CCTV footage to help in the ongoing investigation into what exactly led to the shooting and a manhunt is already underway to trace the suspect, Kalyebi Ismail, who is currently on the run.
“Efforts are underway to apprehend him. We urge the public to remain calm and report any information that may assist in the arrest of the suspect,” he said.
