Sironko, (UG):- The inzu Yamasaba cultural leader, His Royal Highness, Umukuka Jude Mike Mudoma III has revealed that as a cultural institution, they intend to plant over 2.5m trees in the Elgon region to conserve the environment.
The Umukuka made the remarks while addressing his subjects in Sironko during the International World Day of the Environment on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
The spokesperson of Inzu Yamasaba Mr Steven Masiga said that the initiatives on tree planting in the Elgon should be well funded and supported by Masaba of both Kenya and Uganda on account that it will benefit the Districts neighbouring the Elgon mountain like parts of Kitale, Tranzoia, and Bungoma on the part of Kenya and Bugisu region and also the Sebei region.
“The Umukuka will be leading a delegation of Ugandan bamasaba to Kenya on the invitation of the Bamasaba Kenyan chapter and more fine details will be shared with the media,” Mr Masiga stressed, especially after the Bungoma tour.
He also added that a substantial part of the people in the Elgon especially in the Districts of Bududa have been relocated to faraway places like Kiryandogo and the trees being planted will be an environmental mitigator and in future, we may not need to relocate anyone as our people ought to stay in their ancestral homes.
The intervention by Inzuymasaba leaders will bring to a halt the issues of migrations in the Elgon .
