Kampala, (UG):- The former Resident City Commissioner-RCC of Rubaga Division Anderson Herbert Burora has been remanded to Luzira prison until July 09, 2024, over charges of hate speech and malicious misinformation.
Mr Burora was arraigned before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Mr Ronald Kayiizi, who read out two charges: hate speech and malicious information contrary to the Computer Misuse Act, which he denied.
Court documents suggest that Burora faces charges related to spreading malicious information, following a barrage of social media posts aimed at Parliament Speaker Anita Among- between March and June 2024.
“Mr Burora, between March and June 2024, in the areas of Kampala District or thereabout, while using a computer via the handle “hander HB,” shared information likely to ridicule, degrade, or demean and promote hostility against the Speaker of Parliament,” read in part a charge sheet presented by state prosecution led by Mr Birivubuka, Ms Joan Keko, and Ivan Kyazze.
On the second count, the prosecution alleges that Mr Burora shared malicious information relating to the Speaker.
Earlier, Police Spokesperson in Kampala and Metropolitan Area SP Patrick Onyango confirmed having Burora in detention at Kira Police Division following his arrest on Monday night.
Burora, through his official X handle posted on Monday night before his eventual arrest that there were unknown men who had besieged his home and claimed that they wanted to go with him before he was picked up.
Burora, who is also former Nakawa RCC was in mid-March suspended from office for allegedly continued violation of the Uganda Public Service standing orders 20212. He had attacked Parliament Speaker, Anita Among over, being corrupt and shielding corruption in Parliament inclusive.
In the same reign, Burora turned his guns to the Inspectorate of Government Betty Kamya, accusing her of failing to execute her mandate, calling her to immediately resign for failure to fight corruption.
Recently Burora handed his resignation letter to his bosses, saying he wasn’t ready to take on any NRM job whatever, citing the increased rate of corruption among party members.
