Lamwo district boss charged, remanded over fraud

Lamwo, (UG):- The Magistrate’s Court in Lamwo has charged and remanded Sisto Oyet, the LC5 Chairperson for the northern Uganda district, over fraud-related charges.

Oyet who is accused together with Richard Obalim, the LCIII chairperson for Padibe town council who is still at large is accused of obtaining money by false pretence, conspiracy to commit a felony and conspiracy to defraud.

State Prosecution told court sitting on Wednesday that between April and May 2024 in Lamwo District, Oyet together with his accomplices at large conspired with intent to defraud three government vehicles including a UG 0445M Toyota Hilux Pickup white, numberless Toyota Hilux white and numberless Land Cruiser white in the property of Lamwo District Local Government purporting that they were taking them for repair whereas not.

The accused purported that they were taking the vehicle for repair, but they sold it to a businessman instead.

Following his arrest earlier this week, Oyet was on Wednesday morning arraigned before the Lamwo chief magistrate where he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently remanded to Kitgum government prison until July 18, 2024.
