Rwenzori Marathon, Rotary Cancer Run partner to combat cancer in Uganda

Kampala, (UG):- The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon has partnered with the Rotary Cancer Run 2024. The collaboration seeks to raise awareness and funds to combat the disease, which claims thousands of lives in Uganda every year.

According to Mr Amos Wekesa, the partnership will enable the Rotary Cancer Run to expand its reach beyond Kololo and touch the lives of people in Kasese and Fort Portal.

“We are excited to join hands with Rotary Cancer Run 2024. This collaboration is another step towards promoting health and fighting cancer,” Wekesa said.

The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon, certified by World Athletics, will take place on August 24, 2024, in Kasese, with a new 10km route added to the existing 5km, 21km, and 42km races.

The event aims to attract global participants and elevate Uganda’s standing in the international running community.

The partnership aims to raise UGX 3 billion for a cancer centre in Nsambya, Kampala by 2027.

With 35,000 new cancer cases reported annually in Uganda, resulting in 22,000 deaths due to late diagnosis, the need for awareness and funding is critical.

The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon has already made a positive impact on the Kasese region, supporting local businesses and the community through the influx of visitors.

The partnership with Rotary Cancer Run 2024 is a significant step towards making a difference in the lives of Ugandans affected by cancer.
