Bukedi, (UG):- In a startling incident that has raised concerns over security protocols, a security guard employed by Kanoni Security Services Limited has been arrested for allegedly stealing a company firearm.

The suspect, identified as Mudya Musa, a 28-year-old Mugwere, reportedly absconded with a 12 GA Machine model gun along with four live ammunition rounds from his duty post at the Prize Petrol Station on the Mbale-Tirinyi Highway.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Musa had been expressing dissatisfaction over his unpaid August salary and living conditions provided by his employers.

Sources indicate that this frustration may have driven him to commit the theft.

The company supervisor, Aisa Williams, alerted local police after noticing the missing firearm, leading to the issuance of a report under CRB 316/2024.

Following the report, police officers from Budaka launched a prompt search for the suspect. They managed to trace Mudya Musa to Kamonkoli Town Council, where he was apprehended while attempting to flee towards Mbale City. The police successfully recovered the stolen gun along with the ammunition during the arrest.

SP Semewo Samuel, the Acting Public Relations Officer for Bukedi North Region, confirmed the developments and reassured the public that inquiries are underway.

“We are committed to ensuring that such incidents do not recur and will thoroughly investigate the matter to understand how a security personnel could access and abscond with a service weapon,” he stated.

“Mudya Musa is currently in custody at Budaka Central Police Station, where investigations are ongoing.”

Semewo said authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including Musa’s employment conditions and the company’s security measures.

“As investigations progress, more information will be made available to the public. Authorities encourage anyone with further details related to the case to come forward,” he said.
