Kampala, (UG):- Victoria University Vice Chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga has directed the University flag to fly at half-mast for the rest of October in memory of late University Council Chairman Canon Joram Kahenano, who passed away on October 5th.

“At Victoria University, we are flying our flag at half-mast in memory of our late Chairman of the University Council, Canon Joram Kahenano, who passed away on October 5th and will be laid to rest on October 8th, 2024. As a mark of respect and honor, the VUKampala flag will remain lowered for the rest of the month in remembrance of his legacy,” Dr Muganga posted via his official account on X.

The VC further noted that for the entire month of October, they will be reflecting on the contribution of Kahenano to the University and the entire country.

”This is a time for us to reflect on his contributions to our institution. We will continue to build on his legacy, to make this University the best African University, built on global standards,” Muganga noted.

Muganga, a celebrated author and champion behind the integration of Artificial Intelligence in Uganda’s education system expressed deep sorrow over the death of Kahenano whose visionary leadership and significant contributions led to the university’s parallel growth.

”Canon Kahenano’s selflessness knew no bounds, and his counsel and guidance were the bedrock upon which Victoria University built its recent successes. With unmatched expertise and unwavering dedication, he steered us through challenges and toward tremendous growth; a legacy we shall always owe to him,” he said.

Kahenano hailed for selfless contributions

Yesterday, prominent Ugandans and political figures joined Dr Muganga and the entire Victoria University community in mourning Kahenano among whom was the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Thomas Tayebwa who said; “The country has lost a true patriot who dedicated most of his life to the government, serving the country in different capacities.”

Tayebwa praised Canon’s critical role at the Central Bank, where he effectively managed the nation’s monetary policy during challenging economic times.

Former Speaker of Parliament who doubles as Deputy Prime Minister of East African Affairs Hon Alitwala Kadaga also praised Kahenano’s mega contributions to the country.

”We are saddened by the news reaching us of our former Diocesan Secretary, Joram Kahenano who has passed on to glory. We keep the family and friends in prayer for comfort,” the Diocese of Kampala said in its condolence message read at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala.

Canon Kahenano was known for his leadership qualities and in-depth understanding of the financial industry. His influence extended beyond banking into education, where his role as the Chairman of Victoria University’s Council demonstrated his commitment to fostering education and professional development in Uganda.

The late Kahenano will be laid to rest today, Tuesday, October 8th in Mbarara, Western Uganda with a funeral service scheduled at Kyamugorani Church of Uganda at 11 am.
