Museveni, US Ambassador to hold talks after CDF Muhoozi posts

L to R: US Ambassador William Popp with Uganda President Yoweri Museveni

Kampala, (UG):- President Yoweri Museveni has summoned the US Ambassador to Uganda, H.E William Popp, for a meeting immediately after the country’s Independence Day celebrations (October 9).

The meeting, according to highly placed sources at State House, is expected to address the government’s concerns regarding the US Embassy’s recent conduct.

Sources told this publication that in the meeting, President Museveni is expected to open up on his displeasure over the embassy’s open collaboration with the opposition, providing financial, moral, and organizational support.

Specifically, the political officer, Shirm Christopher, and the CIA station chief for Uganda have been linked to this support after the President received intelligence reports from Internal Security, External Security Organizations, and the Chieftaincy of Defense Intelligence and Security, highlighting the US Embassy’s open collaboration with the opposition, including financial, moral, and organizational support.

Additionally, the US Embassy has been accused of backing civil society organizations (CSOs) that promote the LGBTQ agenda and other initiatives aimed at undermining the Ugandan government.

Moreover, the embassy has been targeting government and security officials with sanctions, which observers say is a strategy to hinder their decisiveness in performing their duties.

This development follows the Chief of Defense Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s recent statements, urging the US envoy to apologize for his undiplomatic actions.

The CDF had given the ambassador an ultimatum to apologize personally to President Museveni by Monday morning or face demands for his departure but the posts on social media platform X were a day later deleted and no public apology whatsoever was made to the President.

It is also reported (though we could not confirm by press time) that CDF Muhoozi will also be part of the meeting between the President and the US envoy.
