Uganda’s women’s national football team, the Crested Cranes, secured a 2-1 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in an international friendly match at the Stade des Martyrs on Sunday.
The match began with an electrifying start, as Fazila Ikwaput put Uganda ahead in the 22nd minute, showcasing her striking ability and giving the Crested Cranes an early advantage.
The Ugandan team maintained their composure, pushing forward to extend their lead, but DR Congo fought back.
In the second half, the home side equalized in the 61st minute, bringing the score to 1-1 and reigniting hopes among their fans.
However, Uganda responded with resilience. Substitute Sylvia Kabene made an immediate impact, scoring a brilliant goal in the 77th minute to regain the lead for Uganda.
With the score at 2-1, the Crested Cranes held firm against a late push from DR Congo, ultimately sealing the victory.
The victory marks a promising start for Uganda as they prepare to face DR Congo again on Wednesday at the same venue.
