Kampala, (UG):- As the story of the exploitative Ugandan Water Project unfolds, shocking details have emerged on how the NGO Water Project continues to mint millions in charges on Ugandans in order to access water for their homes.
Last week, this publication disclosed how the NGO, headquartered in Nansana was exploiting Ugandans with exorbitant fees before giving them access to water resources as per the mandate and agreement with the government.
Our sources have now established that contrary to the Memorandum of Understanding between the NGO and the Government, beneficiaries of this full funded water project are expected to pay at most Shs1000 monthly per household in maintenance fees, to cater for the sustainability of the eater springs in their areas.
However, at the grass root, things are different, as locals say the organization now charges them Shs5000 monthly, which is 5 times the stipulated fees in the MoU Framework. This publication couldn’t independently verify the framework details regarding this by the time we filed this story.
But still, sources also today this publication that locals are being forced to pay money in disguise of maintenance and subscription fees amidst complain that their water is like Yaka and without pay, they don’t access it. They add that district leaders also go ahead sign MOUs with them after small tokens and at the end of the day it’s them to suffer.
The Ugandan Water Project, as revealed in our previous article, operates in areas like Wakiso, Kampala and luwero where water is a real source of life. The actions differ from the promises they offer at the beginning. In fact, their traces of revenue are hidden since they don’t clearly pay the revenues since they pretend to be saving money for people in disguise of maintenance.
The disgruntled poor Ugandans have now cried out the president to immediately intervene in this matter saying organizations like the Uganda National Water and Sewage Cooperation are already in place to offer subsidized water prices other being exploited by the cheaters disguising as NGO affiliated institutions.
