Three arrested over forgery of National IDs, Passports in Kampala

Kampala, (UG):- The Territorial Police at the Central Police Station (CPS) is holding in custody three individuals arrested over alleged forgery of critical security documents in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.

Kampala Metropolitan Police, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire identified the suspects, identified as Bagonza Eric (28), Kati Ronald (36), and Mwoko Parnento (24), all of whom were apprehended near Ben Kiwanuka Street at the former Shoprite building on Monday, November 18, 2024.

“It is alleged that the suspects, posing as Airtel agents, were involved in illegally printing and producing security documents, including National IDs, Passports, and registration telecommunications lines specifically for Airtel,” said Owoyesigyire.

“A task team confirmed these allegations and raided the location, recovering items including a machine used in the commission of the crime. The recovered documents include National IDs believed to belong to unsuspecting individuals.”

ASP Owoyesigyire explained that the operation was carried out after credible intelligence was gathered about the suspects’ activities, adding that the recovered items will be instrumental in tracing the victims and determining the scope of the forgery.

“The task team, in collaboration with the Central Police Station Criminal Investigation Department, is currently recording statements and identifying the owners of the recovered National Identification Cards. This will guide the next steps in the investigation,” he assured.

Police have since urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to forgery and impersonation.
